Arvigo therapy

Arvigo massage is a gentle therapy which can help relieve symptoms of prostatitis. The technique is performed by our massage therapist Karl Monahan, who is a certified Arvigo practitioner and the first male in Europe to offer this specialist form of treatment.

Arvigo originated as a Mayan healing technique involving external, non-invasive, deep-tissue massage. When applied to the lower back, sacral and coccygeal areas, gluteus muscles, legs, and lower and upper abdomen, it can help ease congestion, increase blood flow and relieve discomfort.

Who is it suitable for?

Patients who have one or more of the following symptoms may find Arvigo beneficial:

  • Pain in the prostate area, perineum, testicles, penis, urethra, rectum
  • Pain in the inner thighs, lower back, above or around the pubic bone
  • Pain on ejaculation
  • Urinary frequency
  • Nocturnal urinary frequency

How does it work?

The first step in the treatment process is the completion of an in-depth form, allowing Karl to build up a picture of your presenting symptoms. He will need to gain an understanding of your stress patterns and lifestyle, as these will be addressed as part of the healing process.

Following from the massage itself, you will be given a range of techniques designed to allow you to take control and manage your symptoms yourself. These will include exercise and stretch programmes, management techniques and a self-care form of the massage for you to practise at home.

Where is it done?

Treatments are performed in our quiet, relaxing massage therapy room at The Prostate Centre.

How much does it cost?

The initial appointment is for 2 hours and costs £160.

All follow-up appointments are for 1-1½ hours and cost £100.

Karl is available on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please telephone our Patient Liaison team for an appointment on 020 7935 9720.
