our special services

A unique feature of The Prostate Centre is the range of advice we make available to anyone who is diagnosed with prostate disease.

  • For prostate cancer, radical prostatectomy (surgery) is our particular area of expertise.  Prostate Centre urologists can perform this using the nerve-sparing open technique but we now use almost exclusively the da Vinci robot system (keyhole surgery). Our team is the most experienced in the UK for robotic prostatectomy.
  • However, you may wish to explore other options that The Prostate Centre can make available to you (such as brachytherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy, chemotherapy, active surveillance), with different expert members of our team or associated specialists who have the relevant expertise.
  • We also give you the opportunity to ask our radiologists about your ultrasound results, or our pathologists about your biopsy or radical prostatectomy histology findings.
  • We have a “quiet room” where you can spend time talking things over with our specialist cancer nurse. She will help you weigh up your options and explain in more detail what to expect during your treatment.  If you find yourself distressed by your diagnosis, or your partner or family is finding it hard to cope with your condition, you may wish to book a consultation with our physician who specialises in emotional and family support.
  • We are committed to helping you prepare both physically and mentally for any operation. So you will be offered a pre-anaesthetic fitness assessment and the chance to plan the kind of regime, under the guidance of our men’s health team, that has proved immensely beneficial to many of our patients about to undergo surgery and which in many cases can be life-changing.
  • In reaching your decision you may wish to visit the hospital ward and talk to the nursing staff; this is something we encourage and can arrange to suit you.
  • We can also put you in touch with patients who have been through a similar experience to your own, who will give you a “warts and all” account and reassure you on any points of concern.
  • For patients and family members who live outside London, we can suggest hotels nearby which you may like to consider.
  • Some of our literature is available in Greek and in Arabic, for the convenience of our visitors from those countries.
  • For patients who speak little English, we have employed the services of Language Line, an over-the-phone interpretation service.
